What is Stem Cell Therapy?
Stem cell therapy is an autologous, non-surgical treatment that uses the stem cells found in a patient’s body to treat or prevent various health conditions and diseases. There are three types of adult stem cells used for stem cell therapy: bone marrow stem cells, adipose stem cells, and stem cells found in the blood. Using adult stem cells for stem cell therapy treatments often produces the best results because the stem cells are grafted from the patient’s own body, which reduces the risk of an adverse reaction to the treatment or of the body rejecting the stem cells.
Longevity Regenerative Institute uses bone marrow stem cells for our stem cell therapy treatment. Bone marrow stem cells act as a repair system for the body and can be used to repair and regenerate damaged tissues and cartilage. In some circumstances, stem cell therapy can be used as an alternative to joint replacement procedures and can often help patients avoid the need for these surgical procedures.
Stem cell therapy treatments are non-surgical and have little to no downtime associated with them. Most patients are able to return to their daily routines immediately following a stem cell injection session
How are stem cells obtained?
The stem cells used for our stem cell therapy treatments will be harvested from the patient’s own body. The iliac crest and the femur are common choices to harvest bone marrow stem cells from because they are easily accessible. Before the stem cells are harvested, the skin and bone in the donor area will be numbed to minimize any discomfort. A special needle will be used to draw bone marrow blood, and after it has been drawn the bone marrow blood will be placed in a centrifuge to separate and purify the stem cells.
