Longevity Regenerative Institute – Pain Management Center in Oklahoma City, OK
Welcome to Longevity Regenerative Institute. Dr. Darryl Robinson specializes in non-operative, minimally invasive spine care and pain management. At Longevity Regenerative Institute, we focus on identifying pain generators and instituting targeted therapies to establish a restorative rehabilitation program for our patients in Edmond, Moore, Mustang, Norman, OKC, and the surrounding Oklahoma areas.
At Longevity Regenerative Institute, we provide a full spectrum of non-operative, minimally invasive spine care services. Dr. Robinson begins by assessing the mechanism of the injury to determine if a surgical consultation is required and works to identify pain generators. This information is used to establish a care plan that is tailored to the needs of each patient that incorporates integrative functional medicine.
We provide a broad range of procedures to meet the needs of our patients. Our procedures include epidural steroid injections, radiofrequency (RF) ablation, adipose-derived stem cell therapies, facet joint blocks, diagnostic discography, spinal cord stimulator implantation, radiofrequency neurolysis, EMG/Nerve conduction studies, and more.
What do I need to do in preparation for my procedure?
You will need a driver post procedure. Discontinue use of blood thinners (aspirin, plavix, coumadin) and NSAIDs (ibuprophen, naprosyn, mobic etc.) for five days prior. Do not eat or drink 4 hours prior.
What should I expect the day of the procedure?
Plan on arriving 1 hour before scheduled time. The entire procedure process usually takes a couple hours. Mild sedation is given intravenously immediately prior. A large x-ray machine will be utilized to identify targets. Medicines will be injected at designated targets.
What is used for intravenous sedation?
Versed is used for relaxation and Fentanyl for pain.
How long will the injection last?
It is hard to predict because every individual’s case is different. Results could range from just a few days of relief, up to a year or more.
How many injections can I have?
Injections can be given individually or in a series of three. I try to limit my patients to no more than 4 injections per year at a given spinal region.
What should I expect after the procedure?
The injected substances may cause numbness to the affected extremities for up to 6 hours. Caution should be taken to avoid falling. Symptoms might be aggravated for a day to a week post procedure. During this period use ice for 20 minutes out of every hour and resume regular pain medications. Typically, the injected steroids take three to five days to take effect.
When can I go back to physical therapy?
I prefer that patients wait at least 72 hours prior to participating in exercises that cause dramatic heart rate acceleration. Heating pads and hot packs should be avoided as well for at least 72 hours.
